Editing Stage

During this stage of editing i have finished the first sequence that the audience will see, consisting of a stabbing. It cuts off with the character holding their abdomen which has been stabbed and ends, ready to move into the next scene which leaves the audience wondering does this person die or survive?

From the screenshot it shows how the footage is black and white (which is a classic Film Noir technique) i decide to use the 'black and white' effect for two reasons. The first being, when filming the 'fake blood' sequence i used chocolate sauce (rather than creating my own fake blood as it can often look unrealistic and make my trailer look more silly than serious) as when used with a black and white filter looks like blood due to the consistency. I adopted this technique from director 'Alfred Hitchcock' who used this method in his film Psycho
My second reason for having this scene in black and white was because it was suppose to represent an action that had already happened (set in the past).

Editing Stage

I am currently at the stage of editing all the footage I've recorded over the past few weeks. Whilst editing i have noticed areas which i will need to re-record due to poor quality, and will need to add extra scenes it will allow for other scenes to make sense.

  • Meaning you can adjust the tonal range

Colour Grading and Correction

Colour Correction/Grading

  • Colour grading refers to the brightness levels of 'reds, blues and greens'
  • Balancing the colours to make whites seem whiter rather than it being washed out
  • Involves increasing and decreasing a colours saturation
  • Colour grading is the process of enhancing and altering the colour

The first image is the original clip, without the use of 'colour balance'
The second image is the edited clip with the use of 'colour balance' - Highlight and Shadow balances

  • It has fixed the white balance problem

   STEPS :

  1. Go to windows
  2. Click on workspace and change to effects

Title Sequence

Title Sequence

Initial idea- the idea for the ending of my trailer would be a line of girls laughing and in conversation with each other, the camera will zoom into the character of Freya (extreme close up shot) then focusing in on her eye in from that comes the title of the film ‘FEMME FATALE’.

Art of the title is a website that shows all different genre of films titles; I researched three different gangster film titles, the first being ‘Goodfellas’.

·      Consists of no background, only face paced print which is simplistic
·      The credits run across the screen (rushed) to mirror the frantic events in the film

'The Sopranos’

·      Signature prop used, cigar
·      Jerky filming, various shot types, zooming in and out of the frame

‘Snatch’

·      Use of security cameras- idea for the vicious attack inflicted on the corner shop man WEBSITE USED TO HELP CREATE (http://nofilmschool.com/2016/12/how-create-cctv-video-effect-or-without-plugins)

‘Psycho’

Having a brutal attack filmed in black and white will make the attack look more authentic, working with fake blood can look fake and corny, my idea is to use what ‘Hitchcock’ did in his film ‘psycho’ and use chocolate syrup as it will look more authentic and realistic.
